Sports Physical or Wellness Visit

Summer is in full swing, we hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather and endless activities!

It is a good time to start thinking about back to school! And with that comes Sports Physicals.

We often get asked should my child have a Sports Physical or Wellness Visit?

Let us simplify it for you!

The North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) provides guidelines for a preparticipation physical. This consists of a focused review of your child’s medical history. Physical examination to identify any medical or muskuloskeletal concerns. Including evaluation of blood pressure, weight, height, and a vision screening.

If a more comprehensive examination is needed, a Wellness Visit is more appropriate. This includes in addition to the sports physical a more comprehensive review of your childs medical, family, and social history. A comprehensive physical examination beyond the need for sports participation. An update on immunizations. Provides opportunity to establish relationship with provider to be able to optimize care for your child as they continue to grow and evolve. Discussions regarding safety, healthy lifestyle behaviors, nutrition, and management of chronic illnesses.

We recommend checking with your insurance plan to see if you have wellness benefits. If so, a Wellness Visit should be considerered.

We are looking forward to continuing to provide comprehensive care for you & your family!
